China (mainland) – Legend Silicon Corp. has announced a single-chip solution for the China Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) System Standard (GB20600-2006). The highly integrated single LGS-8GA6 chip is expected to hasten the development of mobile TV devices such as portable media players (PMP), handheld TVs and mobile phones for the China market. It will allow mobile devices to receive free-to-air (FTA) TV programming normally viewed on home TV sets.

The chip combines Legend Silicon's GB20600-2006 demodulator, Analog Devices Inc.’s silicon tuner and a time de-interleaver memory into a small System-In-Package (SIP) 64-ball grid array (BGA). The LGS-8GA6 is specifically designed to meet the stringent low-power and space-constrained requirements of mobile devices.

Legend Silicon has worked closely with the China government in developing the GB20600 standard. It was the first to develop a commercial GB20600 digital TV semiconductor solution now designed into almost all major brands of digital TVs and set-top boxes. The mandatory GB20600 standard not only supports high-definition broadcasts for the fixed TV, but is also designed to deliver standard-definition television to mobile devices.
